Mission Peak July 4th Fireworks Hike (7/4/01)

On July 4th evening, eight of us hiked up Mission Peak to watch the fireworks down below.  It was aboslutely stunning hiking up while the sun set behind us.  Hues of fiery orange, red, and blue filled the kaledioscopic sky.  It was what dreams may come.  We started at about 7:30 pm, got to the top at a little after 9pm.  Then the fireworks started, first in the Foster City area, then all over the Bay, from Palo Alto to Mt. View to San Jose, to Santa Clara, to Hayward, Fremont, Oakland, and even east in Livermore.  We brought up all sorts of food and enjoyed them while watching the fireworks down below.  And after hiking down under a full moon a few hours later, we filed into a townhouse and has bu'n thang and che` tha'i.  What a life huh? :)

The hike was so perfect, we've got requests for next year already!  Mark you calendars/palm pilots!

A view of the south-end of the bay.
The golden grass wraps the mountain surfaces like sheets of gold.

Struggling up one of the shortcuts.  Toonie (the canine) leads the way.  A park ranger in her truck asks us to take the long route.  But.. but..but... we want to go up the shortcut... and we did :)

Almost there... just 10 more minutes!
The sunn is setting quickly and creating magnificent colors even quicker.

The sun and the moon in perfect harmony.
