April 17, 2004 - Bear Valley Bear Valley is located about an hour north of Sacramento. Songyuan did the drive, the rest of us (Al, Yiwen, and I) did the sleeping, thanks SY! The valley is reached via the Bear Valley road and is mostly dirt road and thus pretty slow. We saw another group that were out for photography/bird-watching/etc. They consisted of 4 cars. We followed them for a few stops and then went on our own. Overall, we did see quite a variety of wildflowers. However, it wasn't as beautiful or varied as the literature had stated. There's good reason to believe that the weather had a lot to do with it. We did see some interesting birds and were greeted with a hail shower that lasted some 15 minutes. Pretty neat! Better try next year! -Paul [Return to Photography Archives]
